Bakumatsu: the last years of the Shogunate government and the period of time

as 'tetsu' in the case of Tetsunosuke's name.
Kyoukuchou - head of the organisation, in this case, Kondou.
Meiji - the period after the Bakumatsu, when the Emperor was in power.
Miburo - refers to the Shinsengumi. Direct translation: Wolves of Mibu.
Oni - Demon.

no ko - 'child of a demon'. Okita refers to himself as this.
Ronin - Masterless samurai
Sashinryo - sword set
Sensei - teacher
Seppuku - Honour suicide.
It involves the slitting of the abdomen.
Shinobi - Another name for the ninjas. In the series, Yamazaki is our good-guy shinobi =)
Soroban - abacus
Sumimasen - the more mature form of 'Sorry'.
Tennen-Rishin Ryu - the swordfighting style used by the Shinsengumi.
Tonsho - Shinsengumi headquarters
Wakizashi - Japanese short sword
Yaoi- Homosexual. Actually, I have been informed that it really means 'No point, No meaning'. (o.O basically
homosexual, right?) But I am aware that it is very commonly used in reference to homosexuality in the fan fiction world, along
with Shonen Ai and Shouta Con (DO NOT ask me what the other two's literal translation is, as I haven't the vaguest idea).
